Does an engine manual recommending fuel stabilizer use mean the quality of the engine itself is low?
Hey guys. So my stepfather and I have been arguing about this for some of the day. I just bought a new Husqvarna YTH23V48 tractor today from Sears, and it has a 23HP Briggs & Stratton Intek V-Twin XRD motor. Whiile reading the engine manual, I saw that B&S recommends usage of fuel stabilizer (such as their ReadyStart or StaBil). My stepfather has said that no additives such as fuel stabilizer should be necessary until the engine is at least 10+ years old, although I've run fuel stabilizer in every engine I've had since 2004 (the manuals all suggested the use of fuel stabilizers to keep down varnishing of the carb and acidity in the fuel, leading to fuel line and carb damage). Also called into question here is my 7 year old Briggs and Stratton Intek Plus 18.5 HP motor that I have on a tractor I'm going to be selling soon. Every gallon of fuel that has run through that motor since Day 1 was treated with StaBil fuel stabilizer. It has 250+ hours on it, and it still runs like a top. So my question is: Do you guys think that the B&S manual suggesting fuel stabilizer means that the engine quality is sub-par/low? Just trying to get some opinions here. I'll still follow the manual's instructions, but just wanted to see what everyone else thinks. Thanks :)
fuel stabilizer has nothing to do with the Quality of the engine,its mainly used when an engine is not used for a season such as a lawn mower in the winter,it keeps the gas from going "bad",,i have used it for many years in every engine i have that will sit for months unused
